Mien Tan
Creative Dance Teacher
Mien is a dance movement therapist and somatic integrative coach. She is a movement trainer in the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods, holistic movement systems that enhance flexibility, strength, coordination, and balance. She is also an Argentine tango dancer.
Mien facilitates creative movement and dance experiences for recovery and healing by engaging body and sensory awareness and the active imagination. Her experience includes mental health recovery, aged care (dementia, Parkinson's), self-esteem issues, life transitions, and children and teenagers with developmental challenges.
Mien is passionate about exploring the in-between spaces, where creativity, connection, healing and integration happen, as well as how creative arts therapies, embodied and cultural practices facilitate healing and wellbeing for individuals, communities and systems. Her approach is trauma-informed, compassionate and co-creative, and is influenced by IFS parts work, Jungian analysis and humanistic psychology, and developmental and authentic movement. Meah has a particular interest in the relationship between choreographed dance, improvisation and acrobatic movement in performance. Her current work also focuses on exploring the dialogue between audience and performer, and the collaborative process in devising both improvised and choreographed work. Meah runs Travel Art Dance Company’s program of public classes and workshops, and also works as a freelance choreographer for a diverse range of independent works.
